New London NASP Program

Thanks to the donation from the Northeast Chapter SCI in January 2007, archery has been renewed at New London High School, New London Wisconsin. With your monetary assistance we were able to update our "outdated" archery equipment and purchase a new archery curriculum from the National Archery in the School Program. Dan Schroeder a trainer with NASP helped our school to link up with SCI Northeast Director Steve Schroeder and like magic the funding was there.

Coordinator Jorene Ziebell was pleased to partner with the Safari Club and is former SCI graduate of the Jackson Hole AWLS School in Wyoming. The NASP features state of the art equipment such as the "Genesis" compound bow, shooting backdrop and arrows along with a detailed curriculum of instruction for groups of all ages. With the new equipment, 6 Physical Education staff from the High School and Middle School were trained and certified as NASP instructors last April. They then ran the first pilot core of Freshman in May ending the school year. The students were really excited to shoot with the new equipment and it was easy to see the increased accuracy and heightened interest for the archery unit.

We also share information about SCI and it's commitment to ethical hunting and habitat preservation. We will be shooting again this December with additional High School classes and will also transition to the Middle school level. A future goal is to form an archery club and Team who can represent our school at the State shoot held each year by NASP. The future looks bright for Archery at New London and we again say thanks to NE-SCI for making it happen!
