"2012 SCI NEWI Chapter Rifle"
If I remember correctly, we have never had a varmint rifle as a Chapter Rifle. The focus has mostly been on deer hunting rifles and larger, sometimes MUCH larger. The decision by the board of directors to depart from that pattern has allowed us to produce a unique firearm that will excel at the longer ranges encountered when varmint hunting. The rifle will be assembled with components of the highest quality, and when complete, will be a top-of-the-line rifle worth $4000 or more.
The rifle is based on a stainless steel Defiance Machine “Rebel” action. It is somewhat similar in design to a Remington 700 action, but is produced to a much higher quality standard than the Remington receiver. Glenn Harrison, owner of Defiance Machine, has donated the receiver for this project! You can contact
them through their website at
www.DefianceMachine.com.
Krieger Barrels has been a long-time supporter of our SCI chapter. They have donated barrel blanks and finished barrels that we have used on previous chapter rifles. When contacted earlier this year, they said that they would be happy to continue that support with one of their match grade stainless steel barrels. We sent the Defiance Machine receiver to them, and they chambered and installed the barrel for us. The rifle is chambered for .22-250 Rem., the most versatile varmint round in production. Krieger Barrels donated 100% of their time and materials. Their website is

The final piece of the puzzle is the stock. McMillan Fiberglass Stocks is providing one of their stocks to complete the rifle. They are fitting our barreled action to one of their A3 Tactical Stocks. This stock has great ergonomics for both bench and prone shooting. The barreled action will be glass bedded into their stock. The stock will be finished with an arctic camouflage paint scheme so that the coyotes won’t even see you coming! McMillan Fiberglass Stocks also donated 100% of their time and materials toward our chapter rifle. You can find more information on their stocks at
www.mcmfamily.com.
Sunny Hill Enterprises donated numerous small components for the project, including the trigger guard assembly, magazine components, and
Timney adjustable trigger. They are working with Tom Zimmer to make sure all the parts come together in time for the fundraiser. Sunny Hill’s website is
