Makilaka School - South Africa
One of the characteristics of the South African Bushveld is the
large number of farm schools that you literally find behind
almost every second bush. These schools make education
available to children who would otherwise not have had the
opportunity to study, but unfortunately they are also often
under-equipped.
The Bushveld is also known for its large number of game farms. Local outfitters who cater for the international market are
usually also members of Safari Club International (SCI).
Safari Club International recognized the need of these under-privileged schools
and recently resolved to plough back something into the
community of their clients.
Mr. Christo Carstens of Amber
Adventures acted as the agent for the first project to donate
supplies to a local school. He contacted the Waterberg
District office of the Department of Education with the proposal
from SCI. The Department has identified the Makilaka School on the farm of Mr. Harry Pretorius. The school was visited by
Mr. Lyle Hartman of Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of SCI
and Mr. Christo Carstens on July 16, 2008 to hand over the
donation. Stationery such as exam pads, calculators, pens
and pencils, dictionaries and lots of much-needed equipment were
donated. Also included in this wonderful gift parcel was
basic hygienic stuff such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap etc.
for the learners.
The community would like to thank Safari Club International for
their generous contribution in the uplifting of our people.
