American Wilderness Leadership School (AWLS)

American Wilderness Leadership School ONE 2011 SPONSORSHIP AWARDED for AWLS      The Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of Safari Club International and the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of Sables believe in the AWLS program. The future of hunting depends on presenting the facts about conservation, sustainable use of our resources and the part hunters’ play in this vital part of our future. Enlightening teachers/educators and students enables them to share this information with their students and peers which in turn impacts the future.    Each year we send a select group of educators and students to one of three different AWLS Camps (AWLS West-Wyoming, AWLS Central-Iowa or AWLS North-Minnesota).        We pay the registration fee ranging from $250 - $800 for the weeklong workshop. This includes room, board, linens and towels . Other travel costs to and from the workshop and personal expenses are each individual’s responsibility.    The programs content consists of academic lectures, discussions and field trips covering orienteering, survival skills, aquatic and wetland ecology,  wildlife ecology, environmental ethics, natural resource management and conservation, environmental leadership, wildlife management and firearm use and safety.   Here are some brief reasons why these teachers/educators want to experience AWLS: To bring the issues to the classroom To develop a reading unit based on the environment to create a sense of wonder, appreciation and respect for the earth To develop outdoor recreational skills To integrate guns with history, biology, ecology and wildlife conservation To incorporate outdoor education in the physical education program To teach how to become stewards of our environment To broaden knowledge of current environmental issues       It is with great pleasure that the Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of Safari Club International and Northeast Wisconsin Chapter of Sables support the AWLS program and the privilege to sponsor one (1) individual for a 2011 AWLS workshop,  this individual will be attending the AWLS West Camp in Wyoming. The impact this experience will have on this individual and on future generations is gratifying. We wish  them a delightful and rewarding learning and life-enriching endeavor.    In 2010-2011 we have also donated $1,000 towards the renovation of the leaning center at the AWLS West Camp in Wyoming.       For further information about AWLS (American Wilderness Leadership School) or to request a Teacher or Student Application Form for an AWLS 2012 camp contact the NEWI SCI Director of Education Roberta "Bobbie" Windus at 920-604-1687 or email rrwindus@yahoo.com. Completed forms need to be submitted to her by April 1, 2012, and successful applicants will be notified no later than May 1, 2012.
